PEOPLE & PLANET

I have always been enamored with flowers - in the garden, in a vase, in pictures, and as a gesture of love... either to ourselves or to the people who matter to us. Flowers can brighten your day, improve your mood, and add a little elegance, whimsy, sparkle, or sweetness to any space you put them in. We grow them here not only so that we can be surrounded by them, but out of a desire to provide this beauty to our community as well. Because, basically, I believe that flowers are good for you.

The global commercial flower trade, which supplies around 80% of the cut flowers purchased in this country, relies heavily on underpaid labor, toxic chemicals, single use plastics, and thousands of miles in shipping... creating human and environmental impacts that are not sustainable. We endeavor to offer you a local alternative with a more holistic approach.

We are dedicated to environmentally conscious growing practices, and to the well-being of our community, including the plants and animals and humans within it. That means, first and foremost, that we only offer seasonal blooms; roses, for example, simply do not flower in Oregon in February, nor dahlias in May. It means that we do not coat our flowers in chemicals, dip them in dye, or wrap them in plastic before we hand them to you; that we strive to minimize, and if we can't, then to continually reuse every supply that enters our system; and that we attend to the health of our soil first, because strong plants needn't be artificially coerced to grow.

Our property serves as both a wildlife habitat and a farm, and every decision we make is in service to both, as much as possible. Over the years, as we have labored to shift this space from barren to fertile, we have found that creating a balanced ecosystem is far more effective for growing healthy plants than any other 'fix' you can possibly find. We do not use herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers on our crops. Aside from a few organic amendments, mainly, we rely on beneficial insects and other critters to help keep our plants healthy and our blooms looking their best. Our production team includes the many bees, beetles, ladybugs, hoverflies, birds, and worms that you can see - and all of the microorganisms that you can't. I feel incredibly thankful for this wealth of support, and we do our best to make sure that our crew is happy - and keen to stick around.

Go ahead and bury your nose in one of our bouquets. Those flowers really did grow that way... they really are fresh... and it really is safe to do so. :)
